The following is a brief list of my recent work, or work I am particularly happy with. Over the years I have designed, implemented designs, or other wise launched close to 300 unique websites. These include websites for companies, individuals, or personal projects. Any designs implemented were either built on a framework, CMS (content management system), or coded by hand. Feel free to email me with specific questions or comments about any of the designs below.

Superman’s Pro Barbershop

Superman's Barbershop

This was a freelance project I was asked to do. The client (the owner of Superman’s Pro Barbershop) provided the logo and the colorful graphic. This was my first mockup, which I thought turned out pretty nicely.

Superman's Pro Barbershop
The first set of revisions came back with the main request being that I made the design more appealing to wealthy men. I dropped the cartoony look and added some photography.

Kapture Pictures: Wedding Videos

Local Wedding Video Recorder
This was another freelance gig I took on. The client only wanted a landing page type design where they could show off their work in video form. At the time I was asked to design the page, the client had not yet decided on what to name his business, hence the generic company name.

Glock Holster Store

Glock Holster Store
While I worked as a web developer for StoresOnline, I decided to break out of their template-based content management system (called the StoresOnline Builder), and make some customized designs for my clients. This was one of my very first custom design in their CMS.

Kim’s Attic Treasures

Kin's Attic Treasures
Another example of a custom design using StoresOnline’s old Builder. The current version of their software does a much better job at allowing for custom designs. Back when I was with the company, all their templates were table-based, with very, very few class or ID attributes throughout their template markup. I really enjoyed the challenge and tried to make most of my designs different (as opposed to simply turning in a cookie-cutter templated solution).

Rodrixar Blogspot Blog

Rodrixar's old blog layout
This used to be the design of my old blog, back when I hosted it with Google’s BlogSpot platform. I started blogging back when I was pursuing my Business Management degree at LDS Business College, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Back then, I didn’t really mind how my blog looked. But after working for StoresOnline and Crexendo, where I did a lot of template design customization, I thought I’d try to see if I could customize an existing Blogspot template using nothing but a stylesheet. Yes, blogger did allow you to modify the HTML directly, but I thought it’d be more fun to leave the HTML structure the way it was, and try to come up with a completely different design using nothing but a few graphics and a CSS file.

Scented Memories Soy Candles

Scented soy candles
And yet another StoresOnline custom design. One of the most important lessons I learned while customizing these template sites is that a couple of quality photographs, a strong logo, and a few basic, yet carefully prepared elements can make a website design look very pleasing to the eye. I have yet to see a strong example of good web design that makes a good case against the saying that “less is more” or that “simplicity is beauty”.

Old School Table-based design

An old school Nintendo fanboy website
While this is by no means a design I’d consider as my best work, I do have a special place in my heart for this design. This was one of my very first custom designs. I mocked this up back in the early 2000′s, using nothing but Microsoft Paint (believe it), and coded it from scratch using nothing but Notepad. Yes, it was all put inside tables, but I did code the whole thing in one sitting, and using no references but my memory. Not a bad design, all in all, I don’t think.

Internal Tool used by Brigham Young University

Brigham Young University Idaho internal tool interface
While working as an interface designer for the academic technology services department at my university, I was asked to mockup an interface design for a tool they were developing to help professors talk about the tools they were using in their classes. I was later involved in other aspects of the development of this software, leading the coding part of the project.

Orthofix International: Site Redesign

Orthofix International
Another project I took on as a freelancer. I originally got involved with the orthopedic company as an SEO, but later was involved in redesigning the site for their Brazilian division. The design included a custom mobile version.
